Background

In their joint workshop, Megumi Eda (ballet) and Yuko Kaseki (Butoh) combine contrasting movement languages to create an intensive, experimental training. Inspired by contrasts such as fire and water or light and shadow, they explore the creative potential of physical and mental extremes. The focus is not on technique, but on the fusion of heterogeneous forms of expression - powerful, poetic and challenging.

Biography

Yuko Kaseki is a butoh dancer, choreographer and performer based in Berlin. Her internationally exhibited works combine butoh, improvisation, visual art, text and sound. She has presented poetic-experimental performances in over 30 countries, often with artists from a wide range of disciplines and skills, for example with Theater Thikwa. Her work reflects identity, boundaries and otherness.

Megumi Eda is a dancer and filmmaker. After stints with the Hamburg Ballet, Dutch National Ballet and Rambert Dance Company, she became a founding member of Armitage Gone! Dance in New York (Bessie Award 2004). She now lives in Berlin and develops multimedia works on topics such as war trauma, women's rights and the abuse of power in the dance world - including with Yuko Kaseki in DIVINE (2023).
